New date set for "The Conjuring" sequel.

Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line have announced a June 10th 2016 release date for the sequel to James Wan's successful hit horror film "The Conjuring".
The sequel is titled "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, and chronicles the ongoing adventures of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (roles reprised by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmia). The script was written by Chad and Carey Hayes and filming is set to begin in early summer of 2015.
Although an official plot synopsis isn't available yet, the title most likely refers to a 1977 incident in a U.K. village which was investigated by the Warrens. A single mother with four children reported that their home was haunted with demonic voices, items thrown about and even the levitation of the young girls. These events supposedly went on for time time and got quite a bit of press in the U.K. which let to numerous investigations. It was determined that the children faked at least some of the incidents, but the family insisted that the bulk of the story was true.
The Horror Nerd thoroughly enjoyed "The Conjuring" and while "Annabelle" was widely panned, let's hope that this true sequel lives up to its predecessor!

"Ash vs. Evil Dead" Series Planned on Starz Network

The Starz cable TV network has apparently green-lit "Ash vs. Evil Dead," a TV series intended to be a follow-up to the original three Sam Raimi-directed "Evil Dead" movies.
Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell will return for the series which will consist of ten half-hour episodes and will debut in 2015 (exact premiere date TBD).
Campbell is reprising his role of Ash, the chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last three decades avoiding responsibility and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, he is finally forced to grab the chainsaw once again....
Raimi is set to direct the pilot, which he will co-write with his brother Ivan along with Tom Spezialy ("Chuck," "Reaper"). Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Campbell will executive produce, Ivan Raimi will co-executive produce, and Aaron Lam will produce.

This is not the first collaboration between Raimi and Starz. He, along with Tapert helped the network in their venture into original programming with the popular and successful "Spartacus" series. If anyone is familiar with that show, they know that Starz has no problem with nudity and gore, which is a very good sign when it comes to developing a series based on "The Evil Dead".
Let's hope that Raimi and Campbell can capture the magic of the original trilogy. There have been rumors of a fourth film for many years, and perhaps this series will give the Evel Dead fans what they have been longing for.

"Insidious Chapter 3" Changes Release Date

According to Focus Features, the release date for "Insidious Chapter 3" has been moved to June 5, 2015. The film was going to originally open late May 2015. The film will now open against the "Entourage" feature film, but the new opening date does put it one week before "Jurassic World", which might turn out to be a good thing.
This latest entry in the hit horror franchise is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. The story is a prequel to the events of the first to film, and is set before the haunting of the Lambert family. Supposedly, it will reveal how psychic Elise Rainier (played by Lin Shaye) reluctantly agreed to use her ability to contact the dead to help a teenage girl (played by Stefanie Scott), who is being tormented by a dangerous supernatural being.
Let's hope that this entry in the series follows in the same vein as the first two, which, as far as The Horror Nerd is concerned, were worthy entries in the "supernatural horror" genre.
