Grindhouse Nights at Cafe Z - July 28th, 2012, Event Recap
On Saturday, July 28th, I hosted my first horror genre event, titled "Grindhouse Nights at Cafe Z. Held at Union, NJ restaurant Cafe Z, we screened two independent horror films, "Gallery of Fear" and "The Orphan Killer".
The venue turned out to be very well received. The movies were screen on four flat panel TVs simultaneously, which allowed for excellent viewing anywhere in the lounge. We charged $10 at the door, which covered soft drinks, and movie snacks such as hot dogs, popcorn and candy. A full bar is also available, as were other food items, as Cafe Z is an excellent full-service restaurant. (Click HERE to check it out.)
In attendance were several members of the horror film community. Alan Rowe Kelly, actor/director/producer was on-hand to discuss "Gallery of Fear", and well known indie horror actress Raine Brown was there as well. Also in attendance was modern horror icon Manoush. Unfortunately, we could not screen our third film, "The Turnpike Killer", in which Manoush appears, but this film will be screened at a future "Grindhouse Nights" event.
Overall, despite some minor difficulties, the event went very well and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. I am looking forward to scheduling the next event in what I hope will be a long series of "Grindhouse Nights at Cafe Z" events.
