Several strangers arrive at the El Royale hotel by chance on the same day.  A lounge singer, a priest, a vacuum salesman.....and others.  The El Royale sits in Lake Tahoe smack on the border between California and Nevada, with half the lounge and rooms in one state, and the other half in the other state.  Once a glittering hotspot, the El Royale as seen better days, and it harbors a dark past.  Over the course of the evening, the lives these strangers, along with a newcomer who arrives on the scene later at night, will intertwine in sometimes shocking ways, and it becomes clear that no one is exactly who they seem to be.
